When viewed through a modern telescope, the flattened disk of Jupiter has a pearly color with bands of pastel browns and blues.
Jupiter is encircled by at least 61 satellites and a series of thin rings which makes it similar to a miniature solar system. The planet is well-known for "The Great Red Spot", a complex storm moving in a counter-clockwise direction, across the planet. Colorful latitudinal bands, atmospheric clouds and storms illustrate Jupiter's dynamic weather systems. Its low density indicates that the planet is composed primarily of the lightest elements - hydrogen and helium. At the same time it rotates faster than any other planet - in less than 10 hours. Jupiter is twice as massive as all the other planets of the Solar system combined.
